This Post‐16 Centre has an iconic design which integrates the building with the rest of the school. The building has a low environmental impact, having been designed to achieve a BREEAM rating of Very Good. The elevations comprise vertical timber panels of varying sizes, repeated at random intervals and framed with subtle colours. The resulting elevations are likened to a string of liquorice allsorts.

The fins allow the plant and principle external vents to be located in their form, thereby reducing the floor to floor heights within the building and maximising the efficiency of the plant distribution and ventilation strategies.

The Trend Building Energy Management System controls all of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Comprehensive zoned control ensures only occupied areas of the school are ventilated, thereby maximising energy efficiency.
